Bio
A graduate of Hill College, Aaron Baker has served as the Wellness Center Coordinator for 17 years.
Baker, a native of Whitney, Texas, graduated from Hill College in 2005 with an Associate of Arts degree. He then went on to receive a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology with a specialization in exercise science from Texas A&M University Corpus Christi in 2008. He worked as a student for the Hill College Maintenance Department during high school and while completing his associate degree, from 1999 through 2005.
When hired as the wellness center coordinator in 2008, Baker was tasked to design and oversee the remodel of the Wellness Center, which included a complete remodel of the old weightroom in the baseball field house, gutting the space, creating a new floor plan, new floors, paint, creating designated spaces for the weightroom and cardio room, as well as all new equipment. Currently, the center is home to a 3,800 square foot training facility featuring Life Fitness equipment, including squat and muscle group machines, free weights, dual-cable pulley machines, and cardiovascular equipment. It houses both men and women’s locker rooms equipped with storage lockers and showers. It is open to students as well as faculty and staff five days a week.
In addition to managing the center, Baker provides training and nutrition advice for students, student athletes, and faculty and staff. He also oversees scheduling training of athletes and supervising student workers for the Wellness Center.
It was a full remodel. The original building was the baseball field house with a weight room attached. We gutted the inside from the floor to the ceiling also knocked down a couple of walls to create walkways between the cardiovascular area and the weight training area. New floor, paint, ceiling, windows for natural light, as well as all new exercise equipment.
