Pitching was highlight of Hill College’s 2024 baseball season
Hill College’s baseball season ended its 2024 campaign with an overall record of 24-29 (10-22 in conference) in a highly-competitive North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference that included two nationally-ranked opponents.
Despite the record, Hill College Head Baseball Coach Chris Rateike said there were some highlights from the season – specifically in pitching.
“We had some great pitching performances this season,” Rateike said. “Unfortunately, we didn’t have the run support from the plate.”
Rateike also said he had several new positional players this season as some had to take the place of teammates who were on the injured list, while others replaced student-athletes who had moved on from last season.
“We lost a lot of players from last season,” he added, “so we were really young this year.”
Hill College remained competitive throughout the 2024 season, only being swept by Ranger and Weatherford College. The Rebels also boasted a record of 16-10 at home.
One of the milestone wins this season came on the road as the Rebels defeated No. 17 ranked McLennan Community College, 6-4, April 21 in Waco. MCC defeated Midland last week to advance to the NJCAA Division I World Series.
So far, five student-athletes from Hill College will be moving on to continue their baseball careers including sophomore catcher Ethan Adkisson (Stephen F. Austin University), sophomore pitcher Dalton Campbell (Texas Tech University), sophomore pitcher Carter Coffin (McNeese State University), sophomore infielder Dylan Darnall (Central Oklahoma College) and sophomore infielder Steven Oliva (The University of Texas - Rio Grande Valley).
Rateike said some players could also make the All-Star Team, but that list will not be available until the summer.
