Hill College Cross Country teams bring wealth of experience into the 2025 season
Hill College’s pursuit of a fourth consecutive men’s North Texas Junior College Athletics Conference Cross Country title and a first women’s championship begins Friday morning in the Gerald Richey Invitational at the Harold Patterson Sports Complex in Arlington.
Both the men’s and women’s races will be 5 kilometers and will begin at 7:30 a.m.
Max Austin is the top returning men’s runner for Hill College. Austin finished 16th in the 2024 NJCAA Championships last season. Also, teammates Samuel Pepe and Garison Grizzle will be returning from last season’s squad.
Other sophomores this season include Skye Robb, Lorenzo Mosqueda, and Miguel Sanchez.
Hill College Head Cross Country Coach Greg Lautenslager said Ricky Santos and Caden Floyd will lead a freshman cast that also includes Saul Lopez and Jahaziel Cruz.
“We have a very deep men’s team with much experience from our sophomores,” Lautenslager said. “We have logged the miles in the heat all summer and ready to accept the challenge of working for another title.”
Lautenslager said the 2025 Hill College women’s team has even more experience with all five top scorers back from last season.
“Katie Garza led the team the last four meets and finished one place from All Region,” Lautenslager added, “and Aimee Clarke set school track records in the spring in the 1,500m and 5,000m. Angela Coronado, Avery McCoy, and Elaina McCulloch also improved on their personal best times.”
The sophomores are joined by freshmen Emma Hennesay and Christiana Kamrath.
“This is the most experienced women’s team we have had at Hill College,” Lautenslager said. “The training is going well. We will stay healthy and focused and take aim at our first title.”
Hill College will also host The Hill College Cross Country Classic on Sept. 26 at the Hill County Campus. The meet starts with high school races at 5:30 p.m., followed by the college meet at 6:45 p.m.
