Hill College softball program moves forward with facility renovations
Although the Hill College softball team finished its 2024 season with an overall 4-28 record, there were some sparks along the way that will help transition into next year’s campaign.
Among the team leaders were freshman OF/3B Caydance Lobdell (Sweeny) who finished the season with an overall batting average of .352 including nine homeruns and 41 runs batted in, and freshman outfielder Mariel Medrano (Cypress) with 46 hits on the season (including four triples).
“The hard work, dedication and perseverance of our student-athletes were much appreciated this season,” Hill College Dean of Students and Athletic Director Randy Graves said. “They not only worked hard on the field, but also in the classrooms.”
Also, four student-athletes from the softball program were recently named to the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference (NTJCAC) All-Academic Team. They include sophomore infielder Celeste Cisneros (Buda), sophomore catcher Josie Glaze (Arlington), sophomore outfielder Michelle Macias (The Woodlands), and sophomore pitcher Catalina Sanchez (Glen Rose).
To be named on the NTJCAC All-Academic Team, student-athletes must have earned a minimum of 36 course hours leading toward a degree while also maintaining an overall GPA of 3.25 or higher.
Glaze will also continue her softball career next season at Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth.
Construction is currently underway at the Hill College softball facility which will see many vast improvements in which Graves said, “should help put the college in par with other conference opponents’ facilities.”
“Some of the major improvements include a turf field, stadium lighting, new press box, dugouts, grandstands, and a new 40x60 indoor hitting area,” Graves added. “All of these upgrades are scheduled to be completed by the fall.”
