Hill College softball team ends 2024-25 season by establishing new team records
Although the Hill College softball team didn’t finish near the top of the conference leaderboard, it did manage to set some school records at the end of the 2024-25 season.
The season also gave Head Coach Greg Cary a glimpse of what junior college softball is like in the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference (NTJCAC).
“There were four [out of the nine] teams in our conference who finished the season ranked in the National Top 25 Poll,” Cary said, “and two teams – McLennan Community College and Grayson College – advanced to the 2025 NJCAA D1 Softball World Series.”
Despite the tough competition, Hill College did manage to record the most walks in the past 10+ seasons, tied for the most sacrifice flies in the past 10+ seasons, and had the most stolen bases since 2019.
Individually, sophomore Roxxi Richards (Waco) had the most stolen bases since 2019; freshman Karla Fay-Martinez (Waller) finished as the team’s sacrifice flies leader; and freshman Emma Gray (Jacksboro) tied the record for the most walks since 2016.
“It was a tough season,” Cary added, “but it also gave us an opportunity to understand the conference and region.”
Cary also said he is in the process of replacing the nine sophomores he lost this season to compliment the core group of freshmen who remain on the team.
“We have signed approximately 20 new student-athletes,” he said, “and I believe our recent facilities upgrades played a huge role in our recruiting process.”
Hill College also plans to compete in a few out-of-state tournaments this fall – as well as bringing in a few four-year colleges to Hillsboro.
