Women’s basketball starts seven freshmen due to injuries
Despite a challenging first half to the women’s basketball season, Hill College looks to rebound from injuries to help turn things around during the second half of conference play. Hill College Head Women’s Basketball Coach Antreanna Brooks said she’s been very proud of her team’s fight through a very rigorous nonconference schedule and heading into conference.
“They still have the fight in them,” Brooks said. “Our team continues to get better every single game and, due to injuries, I am playing seven freshmen – and everything’s always new to them. However, when we get rolling, we are really fun to watch.”
According to the most recent Texas Top 10 Women’s Basketball Rankings for both Region 5 and Region 14 (as of Jan. 20), three junior colleges reside in Hill College’s conference – McLennan Community College (No. 2), Grayson College (No. 5) and Collin College (No. 10).
Freshman guard Kiah Goynes currently leads the Rebels in scoring with 213 points, followed by freshman Hollie Sylve with 163 points, and freshman Jordyn Crawford with 153 points.
“Offensively, we are very athletic and can get paint touches from all positions on the court,” Brooks said. “Defensively, we are athletic enough to switch 1-5 and still be able to guard.”
Hill College has six home games remaining on its schedule. The final game of the season will be March 8 as the Rebels host Ranger College beginning at 2 p.m.
