Women’s basketball to compete in ‘stacked’ conference, region for 2025-26 season
Eight freshmen will help make up the core of this season’s Hill College Women’s Basketball Team, which also includes four sophomores and two transfers, who will all be coming together to face a rough and tough North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference.
Head Coach Antreanna Brooks, now in her third season with Hill College, said the Rebels have come together extremely well in a short amount of time.
“I am very proud of this group,” Brooks said. “They care about doing things right, they want to get better, and it shows throughout their actions. There are people in the gym constantly throughout the day, working on their game.”
Hill College redshirt sophomore guard Journee Harris returns to the starting lineup after coming off an injury that had sidelined her last season, and Brooks has high expectations for her this season.
“She [Harris] is a true leader, and I am super excited for all the great things headed her way,” Brooks said. “Also, Kiah Goynes is a returning leading scorer and is off to a phenomenal start where she has grown her game and is firing on all cylinders such as scoring, defending, and being a leader. Lastly, I am very pleased with my forwards – having both size and depth.”
Brooks said both the conference and the region are “stacked” with talent – knowing any team could win any day.
“We play in one of the top regions in the country,” Brooks added. “McLennan Community College is ranked No. 14 nationally, and Grayson College is No. 21 – and these teams are in our conference. Looking at our region, South Plains is ranked No. 7, and New Mexico is No. 9.”
As far as key matchups this season, Brooks said every game is important. However, she said there will be greater emphasis on those games that are closer to Hill College such as McLennan Community College, Temple College, and Weatherford College.
Hill College Assistant Coach Tamia Hewitt is also back for her third season – bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to the women’s program.
“Coach Hewitt has been nothing short of amazing for this program, and we don’t operate as smoothly without her,” Brooks added. “She has grown her knowledge of the game every single year...and I have seen her confidence as a coach grow more each year as well. She knows me, and it just makes day-to-day tasks easier. We joke that she can finish my sentences or knows what I am thinking...but it truly isn’t a joke. I just appreciate everything she brings, and it means so much more than being a coach because she is there for the players no matter the situation or time.”
The Rebels begin their 2025-26 campaign at home Nov. 3 against Howard College, beginning at 5 p.m. in the Bob Bullock Sports Center. The final regular season game of the season is March 7, 2026.
